Orbital Diplomat was created to address a gap in the careers landscape: space policy, law, diplomacy, and governance are growing fields, but job seekers and employers have historically had no dedicated home.

We serve professionals from academic institutions, think tanks, commercial space companies, national space agencies, and international organisations — anyone whose work sits at the intersection of space and society.

Our editorial team reviews all submissions to ensure quality and relevance. We are not a general job aggregator — every position on Orbital Diplomat directly concerns space policy, international space law, space security, space economics, or related governance topics.

Orbital Diplomat ("we", "us", "our") operates the careers platform at orbitaldiplomat.com. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data, and how we use cookies on this site.

1. Data We Collect

We collect the following personal data when you create an account or submit a job posting:

  • Name and email address
  • Organisation and professional background
  • Account type (Candidate or Employer)
  • Job alert preferences and saved search filters
  • Content you submit (job postings, profile information)

We do not collect payment information. We do not sell your data to third parties.

2. How We Use Your Data

  • To create and manage your account
  • To send email verification and account notifications
  • To send job alert emails if you have opted in
  • To display and manage job listings on the platform
  • To send the weekly digest to administrators

3. Data Storage

Your data is stored in a Cloudflare D1 database (SQLite) hosted on Cloudflare's global infrastructure. Cloudflare's data centres are distributed globally. For more information, see Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

Passwords are hashed using PBKDF2 with SHA-256 and are never stored in plain text.

4. Email Communications

We use Resend to send transactional emails (account verification, job alerts, weekly digests). By creating an account or opting in to job alerts, you consent to receiving these emails. You can unsubscribe from job alert emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any alert email, or by visiting My Alerts in your account settings.

5. Cookies

Orbital Diplomat uses the following types of cookies and local storage:

  • Essential session data — We store your login session in browser localStorage to keep you signed in. This is strictly necessary for the platform to function and cannot be disabled while you are logged in.
  • Cookie consent preference — We store your cookie consent choice in localStorage so we do not show the banner repeatedly.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies. We do not use Google Analytics or similar services.

The only third-party resource loaded on this site is Google Fonts (typography). Google may set cookies or log your IP address when fonts are loaded. See Google's Privacy Policy.

6. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights:

  • Access — You can request a copy of your personal data
  • Rectification — You can ask us to correct inaccurate data
  • Erasure — You can request deletion of your account and data
  • Portability — You can request your data in a machine-readable format
  • Objection — You can object to processing of your data
  • Withdraw consent — You can unsubscribe from emails at any time

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion of your account, your personal data will be removed from our database within 30 days. Job postings you have submitted may be retained in anonymised form for platform integrity purposes.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of significant changes by email. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
